What you should know before you vote for me
Voters forgive a declared conflict. They do not forgive a discovered one. Here is mine.
Conflict of interest
I own lakeshore property in Wainfleet that has been used for short-term rental, and I have been in a legal dispute with the Township of Wainfleet concerning its short-term rental by-laws and Administrative Monetary Penalties, including an appeal that was decided against me. I have a direct financial interest in how those by-laws are written and enforced.
Under the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act, a member of council with a pecuniary interest in a matter must declare it. If elected, I will declare that interest, and I will seek guidance from a third party at the province on what I can and cannot do in this matter, and follow it for as long as the interest exists. I will not use a council seat to pursue a personal matter.
What I will still say
I will continue to speak, as any resident may, about the cost of the by-law enforcement program using the Township's published figures, because that is a budget question that affects every taxpayer. I will do so on the record and with sources.
Institutional affiliations
I am an AI Instructor at the DeGroote School of Business and an Industry Board Member of the McMaster Digital Marketing Lab.
